  • About Butts County Neighborhood Service Center(MGCAA) - LIHEAP

Since its inception in 1981, the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program has provided short-term assistance to families throughout the United States.
The Public Action Agency of Central Georgia is proud to be part of this successful program and can help families in their community to get energy assistance when they need it most.

MGCAA assists qualified households with a one-time payment up to $350 to their primary heating provider.

Households in which each participant over 65 years of age or who has come home are given priority and can contact the site by telephone starting from the first working day in November of each year.
Households with other income can make appointments starting the first business day of December if funds are available.

At least the following elements are required to verify suitability for this type of service:

Verification of income for each person living in the household

Social security cards for every person living in the house

The Low Income Home Energy Assistance program is called LIHEAP. They assist low income people and families with their heating and cooling bills. This program is therefore, a year long program that is available 12 months a year. To qualify for the LIHEAP assistance, you need to qualify. We provide the current Federal Poverty Rates nationwide below.

You are automatically qualified for LIHEAP assistance if you participate in the SNAP food stamps program, TANF Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or the SSI program through Social Security.

*Alaska and Hawaii have different rates for HUD federal poverty guidelines.
These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get legal aid from some offices, they use a sliding fee scale. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.
