  • About Miami Gardens Community Resource Center - LIHEAP

    The program helps low-income people and families who are financially unable to pay their electric and gas bills.
    Eligible applicants will receive a credit payment that will be applied to their existing utility bills.
    LIHEAP provides assistance in three categories.

    Credits:

    The program provides a credit payment ranging from $150 to $300 to be applied to your existing utility account.

    Eligible participants may receive a credit payment of up to $600.00 to be applied to their existing account.

    Eligibility:

    • Participants who have received a final notification or disconnection of services
    • Reside in Miami-Dade County
    • U.S. citizen or have legal permanent resident status
    • Drivers’ License or picture identification
    • Social Security card
    • Proof of income for last 30 days
    • (SNAP) benefits printout (if applicable)
    • Birth certificates for children 5 years or younger
    • If you receive Section 8 or public housing, a copy of your 50059 form
    • Signed DEO waiver for release of general or confidential information


    • Participants are allowed to apply for Energy assistance in crisis situations twice a year in winter and summer seasons.



    The Low Income Home Energy Assistance program is called LIHEAP. They assist low income people and families with their heating and cooling bills. This program is therefore, a year long program that is available 12 months a year. To qualify for the LIHEAP assistance, you need to qualify. We provide the current Federal Poverty Rates nationwide below.

    You are automatically qualified for LIHEAP assistance if you participate in the SNAP food stamps program, TANF Temporary Assistance for Needy Families, or the SSI program through Social Security.

    *Alaska and Hawaii have different rates for HUD federal poverty guidelines.
    These numbers above represent 100% of the Federal Poverty Rate. In order to get legal aid from some offices, they use a sliding fee scale. When they use a sliding fee scale, the 100% rate can be different than 100%. In those cases, using for example a 200% federal poverty level, you will only need double the 100% number listed above to 200%.
